Picture of the Week

Here's another of Cletus' creations. We call it "The Buffalo".

Spring is Here & We're Plantin'!!

Well, we're getting this years' garden planted. This week I planted seeds & started seeds for transplanting.

Direct Seeded
  • Lettuce
  • Spinach
  • Chard
  • Onion
  • Cabbage
  • Broccolli
Transplants
  • Tomatoes - Cherokee Purple, Indian Curry, Azorean Red, Reisenstraube, Tommy Toes, Amish Yellow, Paquebot Roma, Green Stripe.
  • Purple Beauty Peppers
  • Early Fortune Cucumbers
  • Marigolds (for pest control & to sell)
  • Catnip (for the cats & to sell)
  • Nasturdium (for pest control & to sell)
I'll be starting more in the weeks to come.

Cletus broke ground for our new potato patch. We actually bought seed potatoes this year. We're planting
  • Yukon Gold
  • Butte
  • Cranberry Red
  • Rose Finn Fingerlings
Cletus has been busy planting more Blueberries. It's a good thing cause last year we sold so many I didn't have enough for my freezer stash this winter. I've been rationing them out. I've got 1 more quart bag left. The new Blueberry bushes are looking good & have lots of new buds.

It feels good to get out in the sun & work in the dirt again. The Pheobes are nesting. The Forsithias are blooming. It's time to shake off the winter blues!

Flint River Ranch Pet Food

For some time now I've been looking for a dog food with good ingredients & affordability. I knew what I was feeding is really an inferior food though they're claim is it is a premium food. As the name of that food indicates, on a scale of 1-10, it is ONE number higher than ZERO!

I have researched many brands & I think I've the found one. Not only is it good for our dog, it's affordable and I get it delivered right to my door!

Folks, I'm talking about Flint River Ranch Dog Food. While doing some dog food research I ran across Flint River. I had heard of it before. I liked what I saw. So I ordered a bag. I knew though, that the real test would be whether or not our dog would eat it! When it arrived a few days later, I gave her 1/2 portion of the FRR food & 1/2 portion of the old food. You guessed it! She ate the FRR & didn't even touch the old stuff. With the old food I used to have to get her started by adding some kind of treat to her bowl. Not with the FRR! She's now fully on FRR. I guess we'll have to feed what's left of the old food to the birds!

I can't wait to get the cats on Flint River Ranch food. I know it's going to change their overall health.

Our dog likes her FRR food so much that I decided to become a distributor. Why don't you check out my website at

Farmer's Market

It time to start thinking about this season's Farmer's Market. Last year we sold a little bit of produce from our garden.
  • Carrots sold well. Best sellers were the Cosmic Purple & Atomic Red. Nantes sold well too. Amarillo Yellow sold pretty well but I didn't like the taste, so I'm not going to plant them this year.
  • Tomatoes: All sold well. Cherokee Purple, Brandywine, Reisenstraube & Azorean Red.
  • Cucumbers: Not a best seller. That's ok, they made great pickles!
  • Squash: Yellow Crookneck sold very well. Folks kept telling me they can't find them.
  • Ground Cherry or Husk Tomato: These sold pretty well. I think because of their novelty. I had to really give a sales pitch & gave out a lot of samples. Not planning on these this year.
  • Blueberries: Sold out everytime! Usually didn't take enough of them. They are the easiest to grow & market. The only problem was there wasn't enough left for my freezer stash! Cletus has been busy planting more Blueberry bushes!
This year I'm planning on selling my extra transplants. We'll also add some different Tomato varieties.
